Abhishekam refers to pouring of water. It is performed by the priests of the temple while chanting vedic mantras. The elaborated abhishekham also comprises of Cow milk, curd, honey, sugar cane juice, Lime juice, Tender coconut water, Sandalwood paste, Turmeric powder paste, etc. After offering the elaborated abhishekham to the main idol of Shree Balaji, fresh river water is poured on the idol to clean it. Every drop of water and other substances that comes out after pouring on idols is considered as very divine and devotees must consume the same with pleasure, it gives positive energy and devotees feel spiritual bliss from within.
After consuming the divine liquid, many devotees have experienced its supernatural powers. There are many examples where devotees got cured from serious ailments. This is because the Moolavaar idol radiates positive energy around it and the substances used for abhishekam becomes supernatural after being in-touch with the idol.
Abhishekam has the power to attract cosmic energy, which would be beneficial for the devotees attending the abhishekam ceremony, as the offerings are gently poured over the idol(s) and it results in the radiation of divine blessings and provides protection from the evil. It purifies the soul of a person from within and results in the spiritual upliftment of the devotees. Also, the ceremony purifies the surrounding atmosphere and it contributes to the health and wealth of an individual in particular and public in general.
